Includes a searchable database and a comprehensive employer directory. Post your resume to DICE before you go anywhere else. Everyone looks there, and they will find you. It will stay up for 30 days.

World Wide Web Consortium

The W3C governs the Web, so this is a good place to check for the latest news, versions of HTML, etc.
Strunk's Elements of Style Strunk's is the classic style guide, and this site is set up just like the book.
Online Dictionaries Quick word look-up, lots of information about linguistics, and more answers about words than you ever had questions.
CompuMentor CompuMentor matches technology experts with non-profits and schools. When you are looking for ways to share your skills in a volunteer effort, check this site.
Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility CPSR is a public-interest alliance of computer scientists and others concerned about the impact of computer technology on society. We work to influence decisions regarding the development and use of computers because those decisions have far-reaching consequences and reflect our basic values and priorities.

As technical experts, CPSR members provide the public and policymakers with realistic assessments of the power, promise, and limitations of computer technology. As concerned citizens, we direct public attention to critical choices concerning the applications of computing and how those choices affect society.

editcetera Editcetera is an association of freelance publishing professionals. They offer workshops to the public, and some may be particularly appropriate for STC members.
Journal of Computer Documentation The Journal of Computer Documentation (JCD) is a quarterly publication of the Association for Computing Machinery. JCD features multiple open commentaries accompanying each original paper (or classic reprint) it publishes, and each issue also includes a "literature awareness" essay on some field related to documentation (such as graphics, indexing, human factors, or CBT).
Information Mapping, Inc. Information Mapping conducts seminars on a wide variety of information design topics. Several are scheduled for the Bay Area.

Book Indexing at UCB Ext Book Indexing (3 semester units in Journalism). This course is for individuals pursuing a career in freelance indexing, authors who want to prepare indexes for their own books, technical writers who prepare indexes, editors who contract with indexers and prepare indexes for publication, and anyone else interested in books and publishing.
On-line Learning Instructor-led distance learning from UC San Diego, UCLA Extension, and California CPA Educational Foundation. Many courses offered for credit, but at a high cost, $500+.
On-Line Learning: San Francisco State College credit at about $500 per course.

Learn2University Offers technical courses on-line via subscription. Sub-site of Learn2.com, which offers a wider range of courses.
IT Courses at SkillSoft Another site that offers on-line courses for techies. This is a sub-site for the more generalized SkillSoft.com.
Barnes and Noble OK, it's the bookstore. You can order instructional books and CBT on-line, or see what's available and go to your neighborhood Barnes and Noble and buy it in person.

And be sure to check out Barnes and Noble University for some great, free courses.
