"What's New in Adobe Publishing Tools"

By Max Dunn

Program Description

A recent flurry of updates to Adobe publishing tools gives savvy technical writers many opportunities to expand their creativity and their productivity. But where do we begin?

Learn about the new capabilities of two of these essential publishing applications, FrameMaker 8 and InDesign CS3.

There is good news for those who have long wished for multiple undo or Unicode support in FrameMaker. The wait is over. FrameMaker 8 also includes new default book fonts, tabbed access to open files and a major improvement in handling conditional text.

InDesign CS3's powerful new features include transparency, creative effects, gradient feathers, Multi-file Place, Quick Apply, faster frame fitting, a visual Pages panel and long-document support.

bout our Presenter

Max Dunn has been programming typographical output for over 15 years. In 2000, after 4 years of directing programming at Bertelsmann Industry Services, Max founded Silicon Publishing (http://www.siliconpublishing.com), a Walnut Creek-based development company specializing in document generation and dynamic web site automation.

Silicon Publishing has completed a wide range of projects related to FrameMaker, including projects for Adobe itself, such as helping integrate DITA with the product. Max co-wrote the Adobe-sponsored chapter of the XML Handbook with the inventor of SGML, Charles Goldfarb.

Max was named an Adobe Community Expert based on his FrameMaker work, but he is also an expert at InDesign automation, which Silicon Publishing has been doing since the inception of the desktop product.

Max has spoken at numerous conferences, including the Adobe MAX Conference and the Adobe Partners In Publishing Conference. He is an active member and presenter for the Silicon Valley DITA Interest Group.

His presentation topics have ranged from InDesign automation to managing eLearning content in DITA using Flash and FrameMaker.
