by Rich Maggiani

Program Description

There are those who listen and those who are waiting to talk. Learn how you can employ effective listening and true listening skills to gain information, to help in marketing, to enhance your business relationships, and to add to your professionalism. Topics will include:

  • How listening is a skill that can be learned
  • Why it is important to learn to listen
  • How listening differs by culture and why listening can be so difficult
  • What benefits are gained from listening
  • What skills are needed for effective listening
  • What skills are needed for true listening
  • What behaviors and traits are needed

Be prepared to participate in a few role plays so that you can learn listening skills first-hand.

bout our Presenter

Rich Maggiani (rich.maggiani@solari.net) is a Communication Consultant, an STC Fellow, and an STC Board Director. He is the founder of Solari Communication (http://www.solari.net), a full-service corporate communication agency. Rich writes the Social Media Insights column for Intercom; the Toward Humanity blog (http://www.solari.net/toward-humanity/); and articles and position papers on communication topics.

He presents regularly at professional conferences, including PCOC, ASTD, IEEE, WritersUA, and the STC Summit. Philosophically, Rich views the world as metaphors, as they enable clarity in an otherwise noisy world. Rich applies the resultant simple, clear communication to enlighten and bring people together toward a common goal.
