In this issue of DMV, we continue our theme from the September/October issue of transformation and change. In the last issue, I shared my transformation story of how STC is helping me to reach my potential. Many of you will be interested to know that a former EBSTC member, Orlando Turrietta, wrote to share his transformation story of moving into the world of e-learning. Read his story in Letters to the Editor. In this issue we hear from Laura Phillips, DMV Associate Editor, who has made many transitions in her professional life, and has some words of advice for those of you facing similar challenges (Transition, Change, A Rose by Any Other Name...). Elaine Parrish, DMV Copyeditor, also shares her story of accepting change and taking risks in her career, which landed her in unexpected territory (On Becoming a "Senior"). Learning new skills is always a chance for us to change in a positive way to grow in our careers. Joy Montgomery, EBSTC Nominating Committee Member, gives us a unique outlook on how you can take a chance and get valuable new skills for that job you've always wanted (Psst—Wanna Know a Secret?). We will continue to hear about the STC transformation this year and I believe that this effort has many of us thinking about our own careers, our roles in our companies, and how STC is of value to us. We're learning many lessons about how to survive in the current economic climate and how to increase our value to our companies. I think Elaine Parrish brilliantly sums up these ideas in her article when she says: "...flexibility is vital, opportunities should be grabbed as they arise, and success is dependent on the help of many people along the way." I would love to hear your transformation story. Please drop me a message or consider writing your story to share with other members. Enjoy this issue and please let me know how you like the articles. |
